Introduction
Since you already have the basic knowledge regarding perimeter and area of squares and rectangles. This topic will focus on the perimeter and area of other plane figures.
Let us again define what perimeter and area are.
Perimeter is the shortest distance around a closed figure while area is the space occupied by it. Unit for perimeter is the same as the unit for length.
Here is the formula to solve for the perimeter and area of some plane figures.
Square
Perimeter of a square = 4 × side
Area of square = side × side
Rectangle
Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 × (Length + Breadth)
Area of a rectangle = Length × Breadth
Parallelogram
Area of a parallelogram = base × height
Triangle
Area of a triangle = 1/2 × base × height
Circle
Area of a circle = πr2 , where ‘r’ is the radius of the circle
Circumference = πd, where ‘d’ is the diameter and π = 22/ 7 or 3.14
