Multiplying Worksheet Class 5

Before proceeding in the exercise let’s know more about multiplication.

The symbols for multiplication are cross (×), the asterisk (*), and dot (). You seem to utilize the cross a lot when you write in your notebooks. In both algebra and computer languages, the asterisk and dot are symbols (higher mathematics).

  • Example of symbols of Multiplication

10 × 10= 100

10 * 10 = 100

(10)(10)= 100

10 • 10= 100

  • The result of two numbers being multiplied is known as the product. The multiplier is the number of such equal groups or numbers and the multiplicand is the number of items in each group or numbers.
  • The multiplicand is 10, the multiplier is 10, and the product, or outcome, of the multiplication, is 100.

This can be done easily by using your prior knowledge of Multiplying numbers.

Think about this…

2023(Multiplier) ×(Operation) 4(Multiplicants)= ?(Product)

The goal is to get the product, by multiplying 2023 and 4.

Solution:

Step 1: Start with the digit in one place. (4 × 2 = 8)

Step 2: Multiply 2 with the digit in the tens place. (4 × 0 = 0)

Step 3: Now, multiply 4 with the digit in hundreds place. (4 × 2 = 8)

Step 4: Now multiply 2 with the digit in thousands places. (4 × 3 = 12)

Step 5: 2023 × 4 = 8,094.

Another Example:

Solution:

Step 1: Start with the digit in one place. (2 × 4 = 8)

Step 2: Multiply 2 with the digit in the tens place. (2 × 3 = 6)

Step 3: Now, multiply 2 with the digit in the hundreds place. (2 × 2 = 4)

Step 4: then multiply 2 with the digit in thousands places. (2 × 1 = 2)

Step 5: lastly multiply 2 and 6 (2 × 6=12)

Step 6: 61,234 × 2 = 122,468

Therefore, the product of 61,234(Multiplier) and 2(Multiplicants) is 122,468(Product)

And always remember, that any number multiplied by 1, the result is always the same as you will multiply to 1.

Example:

1,286,182,917= 1,276,182,917
